Open to photographers or folks who'd like to book a rare Alaskan photo session for themselves with full access to the Icelandic horses.
I have some limited availability for the photographic trip of a lifetime. Photographers of all genres are welcome and will have ample professional opportunity, in addition to the creation of an unmatched life story. If you have never photographed horses and would like to broaden your customer base, this would be an incredible way in which to learn. Everyone is welcome, from beginners to the more advanced.
This retreat-style workshop begins when we board a bush plane in Anchorage, Alaska- the only way to access the remote location we are traveling to. It is 150 miles away from the nearest road system. The Icelandic horses have been flown in and hand-walked through the mountains to the homestead where they free range below beautiful views of Mount Hesperus.
This is very unique because Icelandic horses are quite a rarity away from Scandinavia and Western Europe, with fewer than 6,000 registered in the states; not to mention there is only ONE OPPORTUNITY to photograph them like this across raw, wild, and rugged Alaskan terrains. The bush flight alone over the Alaska range is an unforgettable experience with opportunity for aerial photography and videography to share viral-worthy social media content. Once we land, we will begin a five-day stay at a homestead featured on four seasons of History Channel's "Mountain Men".
Glacial boulder fields, Teton-like surroundings, mountain creeks, fields carpeted with wildflowers be-speckled by newborn foals bedding down in the summer bloom- the landscapes will be powerful, diverse, and wildly colorful. We will not only be photographing, but riding the Icelandic horses through this beautiful destination as their newborn foals tag along freely. Riders of all levels are welcome. The horses are gaited, very smooth and comfortable for riding adventures.
For the workshop portion of this event, the ultimate focus will be on the Icelandic horses. Interactive shoots will be modeled by our host to give us the ultimate rugged captures of a lone man raising Icelandic horses in remote Alaska. There will be equal focus on portraiture and high action, always incorporating the wild landscapes we will find ourselves in. Instruction will centralize on everything from basic mechanics and full sharing of camera settings to photoshop tutorials, priming your social media, forming creative advertisement, and creating a brand that pulls you echelons above the saturated photography industry. These shoots will challenge a photographer of any level, and give you confidence to project yourself forward into a photography career. You will walk away with incredible amounts of content and stories that will connect you with target audiences, new levels of organic reach, and business leads.
The stay is all inclusive- meaning that the chartered bush plane flights, horseback riding, workshop tuition, meals, and cabin lodging for five days are included. A good portion of our meals will be scratch to table prepared, using ingredients grown and harvested organically on the homestead. The horses will be gathered from the range, roaming through our photography camp for the duration of the stay. If anyone is interested in homesteading, self sustaining, raising horses remotely, gardening, or anything similarly related- I can't say that you'll ever have a better opportunity to learn about such topics than you will from our host.
There is no other workshop like this anywhere, let alone at this price point. It is hard to find a trip at this price point WITHOUT the photography workshop built into the experience. Attendance is limited to four people, giving you a very exclusive experience with lots of one-on-one opportunity. Questionnaires are sent to every attendee upon booking to pinpoint your expectations, wants, and needs so that I can tailor your experience to you as an individual and give you the maximum take away. As my prior work experience is in aviation and logistics, I am also able to assist in booking commercial airlines, finding the best deals, offering travel tips, and more.
The cost is $4500, with a $1250 deposit required so that I can book your seat on the charter flight immediately. Credit cards and PayPal Pay Later are accepted, as well as customizable payment plans. I encourage all interested parties to peruse the review section of Lane Equine Photography, where you will find in-depth accounts from prior workshop attendees. These workshops have been identified across the board as being incredibly different from any other, offering incomparable levels of information sharing.
I believe that lines have gradually blurred over time and that workshops have become more like content days, making it increasingly difficult to pull the trigger on the expenditure. These are not structured to be content days. There is a high sense of adventure, heavy guidance, and I work very hard to make sure you leave feeling entirely fulfilled and that the investment was worth every cent. These trips are crafted to be something I would personally invest in. I share EVERYTHING. I know that we all work very hard to be able to do this as a profession, and our choices of where to invest money for professional growth hold much heavier weight than people realize.

Join me as I travel back into a time of gunslingers, cattle rustlers, horse thieves, and cowboy gangs. In Tombstone, we will walk the famed OK Corral, location of the famous shootout between Wyatt Earp, Doc Holliday, Virgil and Morgan Earp, and the Clanton-McClaury Gang.Tombstone is a western equine photographer’s paradise. Our all-inclusive stay will include trips to the turquoise mines, ghost towns, local ranches, and of course- the wild west town itself. We will ride on stagecoaches and take in Arizona’s scenery on horseback.
